Toyota has launched a mild-hybrid Fortuner in South Africa. It uses the same mild-hybrid tech as the Hilux MHEV from last year and should hit other markets soon.
The Fortuner MHEV will have a 2.8-liter diesel engine matched with a 48V mild-hybrid system, providing 201 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque.
Toyota says the new Fortuner MHEV is up to 5% more fuel-efficient than the standard 2.8-liter diesel engine. It also promises a smoother throttle response and engine restart thanks to a new idle start-stop feature.
