Hyundai Creta Facelift Hits 1 Lakh Sales in Just 6 Months

Hyundai Creta Facelift Reaches 1 Lakh Sales in 6 Months
The Hyundai Creta facelift has crossed the significant milestone of 1 lakh units sold in just six months since its launch in January. Averaging over 15,000 units sold per month, the Creta facelift has set a new benchmark in the mid-size SUV segment. March witnessed the peak of this achievement with 16,458 units sold, and last month alone saw 16,293 units sold, amounting to a daily average of over 550 units.

Competitive Market Landscape

Hyundai India, the second-largest car manufacturer in the country, has demonstrated remarkable consistency with the Creta facelift. Despite being in one of the most crowded segments, the Creta has managed to stay ahead of its competitors like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, and Toyota Hyryder. For instance, while the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara took a year to reach the 1 lakh sales milestone, the Creta achieved this in half the time.
Hyundai has sold over 11 lakh Cretas in India, with each of the last three 1-lakh milestones being reached in about eight months, suggesting that the facelift has significantly boosted sales. Other SUVs in a segment below, such as the Hyundai Exter and Maruti Fronx, have also crossed the 1 lakh sales milestone, albeit taking longer.

Factors Contributing to Creta’s Success

The success of the Hyundai Creta facelift can be attributed to several key factors. Hyundai has tailored the Creta to meet the preferences of the Indian audience by incorporating features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, large digital screens, and a 360-degree camera. The inclusion of the ADAS suite adds to its appeal.
The Creta is available in multiple engine variants, including a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine with a manual transmission, a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine with both manual and automatic transmission options, and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a DCT gearbox. This variety caters to a broad range of customers.
Another critical factor is the availability of diesel variants. With most competitors exiting this space, the Creta and its sibling, the Kia Seltos, have the diesel market largely to themselves. This gives Hyundai a distinct advantage in the mid-size SUV segment.
The Hyundai Creta has built a strong brand image over the years. Since its first launch in India almost nine years ago, the Creta has become a benchmark for new SUVs in its segment. The widespread sales and service network of Hyundai, coupled with low maintenance costs and a great ownership experience, has resulted in high resale values for the Creta.

Challenges and Future Outlook

Despite its success, the high demand for the Creta has resulted in a significant order backlog. As of the last report, there were about 33,000 pending orders, with an average waiting period of 10 weeks. This indicates a robust demand that Hyundai needs to address to maintain its market position.
The rapid sales of the Creta facelift also reflect a maturing market that is moving towards more expensive and premium models. This trend is beneficial for Hyundai as it continues to position the Creta as a premium offering in the mid-size SUV segment.
