New Skoda Octavia May Return to India with Local Assembly

New Skoda Octavia Launch Soon in india
Skoda Auto is seriously considering reintroducing the Skoda Octavia to the Indian market through local assembly. This move aims to bring back one of Skoda’s most iconic models to the Indian roads, potentially offering it at a competitive price point of up to Rs 30 lakh.
We are exploring the Octavia for India because this car must come back. This could exactly be up to Rs 30 lakh, where we currently have no offering,” said Skoda India Brand Director Petr Janeba.

Potential Timeline for the 2025 Skoda Octavia

While no specific timeline has been confirmed for the 2025 Skoda Octavia launch in India, it’s clear that Skoda’s focus will be on introducing the new Kodiaq first. This model is scheduled to arrive between April and June 2025. Given the typical 12-18 month preparation period for parts and components assembly, the new Skoda Octavia might follow soon after.

Fourth-Gen Octavia Facelift: What to Expect

The fourth-gen Skoda Octavia facelift, updated internationally in February, is on the cards for India. This facelift brings significant updates to the already popular sedan, ensuring it meets modern standards and expectations.
  • Passive Entry at Rear: Enhances convenience for owners who spend significant time in the rear seat, making the Octavia more competitive against SUVs in terms of user-friendly features.
  • Remote Folding Seats: Increases boot space with the touch of a button, a feature typically found in high-end SUVs, combined with the Notchback design for added practicality.
  • Notchback Design: Offers a unique and practical boot opening that includes the glass area, making the Octavia stand out from traditional sedans. This design works seamlessly with the remote folding seats to maximize boot space.
  • Shift by Wire: Introduces an electronic switch system that eliminates many moving parts, aligning with modern automotive trends and providing a unique feature not seen in other Indian cars currently available.
  • Door Umbrella: Adds a touch of luxury and practicality, ensuring an umbrella is always within reach for both sunny and rainy days, enhancing the overall convenience for users.
Internationally, the Skoda Octavia offers a range of engine options, including 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines, as well as a 2.0-litre diesel engine. For the Indian market, however, Skoda plans to introduce the Octavia with petrol engines only. The exact powertrain details are yet to be finalized.
In addition to the regular Octavia, Skoda is considering introducing the sportier RS version in India. The Octavia RS comes equipped with a 265hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with a 7-speed DSG, promising a thrilling driving experience.

Skoda Octavia’s Return: Enhancing Skoda’s Sedan Portfolio

The reintroduction of the Skoda Octavia in India aligns with Skoda’s strategy to expand its sedan portfolio. Alongside the Octavia, Skoda also plans to reintroduce the Superb sedan, albeit as a completely built unit (CBU).
We need to bring all the products which make sense because the brand is up and running with the models…the more cars you have, the bigger brand you are,” stated Janeba.
The return of the Skoda Octavia, particularly with local assembly, could significantly impact Skoda’s market presence in India. It would provide a strong competitor in the premium sedan segment and cater to customers seeking a blend of luxury, performance, and affordability.

Skoda Set to Launch Next-Gen Kodiaq

Skoda is also gearing up to introduce the next-generation Kodiaq SUV in India. Expected to hit the market by mid-2025, the new Kodiaq will feature a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an optional on-demand all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. This update will enhance the Kodiaq’s competitiveness against rivals such as the MG Gloster, Toyota Fortuner, and Volkswagen Tiguan.
