The Kawasaki KLX 230 has been creating a buzz in the Indian motorcycle market. Recently, clearer spy shots of the 2024 KLX 230 S have emerged, confirming that Kawasaki India is in the advanced stages of testing this off-road motorcycle. As the third made-in-India model after the Ninja 300 and W175, the KLX 230 is set to make a significant impact in the dual-sport segment.
Kawasaki KLX 230 Engine
The KLX 230 is powered by a 233cc, air-cooled, 2-valve, single-cylinder engine. Although Kawasaki hasn’t listed official power and torque figures for this model, the off-road-only version, the KLX 230R S, delivers 20hp at 8000rpm and 20.6Nm at 6000rpm. We can expect similar, if not slightly lower, figures for the KLX 230 S due to emissions compliance.
The KLX 230 S boasts a seat height of 843mm and a ground clearance of 239mm. The US-spec model weighs 133kg, but with the addition of India-specific components like a saree guard, front number plate holder, and pillion grab rail, the weight is expected to be closer to 140kg.
Kawasaki KLX 230 Features and Equipment
The teaser highlights the bike’s round LED headlight and long, flat bench-style seat. These elements suggest that the Bajaj CNG bike will be a practical, utilitarian machine without being barebones. The bike also features twin 5-spoke alloy wheels, which contribute to its robust and utilitarian design.
Designed for off-road adventures, the KLX 230 comes with a flat bench seat, upswept exhaust, and a sturdy saree guard. The bike’s suspension setup includes gaitered telescopic front forks and a monoshock at the rear, ensuring a comfortable ride on rough terrains.
The KLX 230 features a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel, both equipped with block pattern tires for better grip on uneven surfaces. The braking system comprises disc brakes at both the front and rear, providing reliable stopping power.
Kawasaki KLX 230 Expected Launch and Rivals
While the KLX 230 S appears production-ready, its launch might take some time. Kawasaki India is likely focused on establishing a robust supply chain for this locally manufactured model. We anticipate the official debut around the end of 2024 or early 2025.
Upon its launch, the KLX 230 will compete with the Hero Xpulse 200 4V. With its accessible seat height, lightweight build, and off-road capabilities, the KLX 230 is poised to offer a strong challenge in the Indian dual-sport motorcycle segment.
